William Good

Bill Good has been an elementary school music teacher for many years at White Deer Elementary School in New Columbia. He became our organist in 2012. Bill plays beautifully on the organ and piano and we are so blessed to have him on our ministry team. Bill also plays Sundays for a church in Selinsgrove.

Secretary

Pat Young

New Secretary :  My name is Pat Finck Young.  For those who don't know me, I was born and raised in the First Presbyterian Church and attended here until 1959 when I got married and left the area for almost 24 years.  I have very fond memories of attending Sunday School and Youth Fellowship here, and the majority of my family still attend here.  I am the sister of Nancy Waughen, Janice Bailey  and Jill Waltman.  I now live in New Columbia and I am the mother of 3 children, 4 grand children and 3 great-grandchildren.  My main passion, other than my family, is reading.  I read anything and always have a book handy.  I also enjoy scrapbooking and card making. I hope I can do a good job as the new church secretary and I am enjoying seeing many faces that I remember over the years.

Pastor

Steve Shirk

  Send Email

Dr Shirk has been our pastor for 20 years. He was formerly the Youth Director at Oreland Presbyterian Church in suburban Philly for 17 years. He is a graduate of Westminster Theological Seminary in Chestnut Hill, Pa. (M. Div.) and Fuller Seminary (D Min.) Steve has been married to his beautiful wife Caroline for 34 years. They have two children: Ashley 28 and Alex 24, and two grandchildren, Lucy and Finn Rosboschil. Steve's youth ministry back ground has given him a unique ability to communicate with all ages. Along with his other duties he enjoys giving weekly children's sermons and playing guitar in worship.

"I came to Christ through the ministry of Young Life where I learned it's a sin to bore a kid with the Gospel. Here at First Pres. we try to keep things interesting with lively preaching and music, home groups, an active Sunday School, and fellowship groups. My home next to the church makes me available to the congregation."

Choir Director

Alyssa Williams

Meet Alyssa Williams

Our New Creative Music Director

Alyssa Williams grew up in Milton and graduated from Susquehanna University. She has a degree in music education and is accomplished on French horn and trumpet. She also likes to sing and while in Milton High School had the lead role of Bell in Beauty and the Beast. Alyssa plays locally in a brass quintet and enjoys working with all ages including children. In 2016 she was hired as the Band Director for Milton High School.

Alyssa writes, "My interest in music began while singing in children’s choir at my home church, Bethany United Methodist Church. I was very active in the instrumental, choral, and theatrical programs in the Milton School District. While in college, in addition to studying music, I participated in chapel music – singing in chapel choir, playing in the ceremonial brass ensembles for special occasions, playing solos, and ringing in the University Handbell Choir. I also took a course titled Music in Christian Rituals that explored the musicological and theological role of music in the church."

Alyssa has become part of our church family. She teaches our Sunday School music class (15 minutes) each week and is always looking for new children and adult choir members.
